SMILES IN A BOX

Many children undergoing treatment for cancer spend days, weeks and even months in a hospital bed. Dylan’s Dream, will periodically during the course of the year provide the children on the Hematology/Oncology Ward with "Smiles In A Box" an activity box filled with:

Toys, card games, crayons, sports cards, an electronic hand held game and puzzle books to help pass the time.

These activity boxes will occupy the children, as well as a welcome diversion for the parents and the patient.

PARENT CARE PACKAGES

Imagine it is the middle of the night, you are a parent of a sick child and have just spent many hours in the ER; stressed, worried, hungry and tired. Only to find out that your child is very ill and being admitted to the hospital as an in-patient.

There you sit totally over whelmed with the fact that your child has just been diagnosed with a horrible illness.  You look around and see a soda machine and pay phone; yes you need to make some important phone calls and would kill for a Coke.

You take a look in your purse or wallet and find nothing, not even some lose change for the pay phone or the vending machines. By this time you are a physical and emotional wreck.

Now your on your way up to the floor were your child will be staying during his or her treatment; and one of the nurses hands you a "Parent Care Package" from Dylan's Dream. Containing some toiletries, a little $ for the vending machines, phone card, toothbrush, toothpaste and some other needed items. Instantly things are looking up, you have a little better out look and your mind set changes from “Oh my God, what am I going to do”? To "Thank God somebody must be looking out for me".
